The advantage in the head-to-head matches if for Korea 2-0. They beat Italy both at the World Cup Stage 1 in 2007 and at the World Cup Stage 2 in 2006. Korea is seeded No. 1 here in Beijing, while Italy is No. 6.

However, Italy can rely on experience with GALIAZZO, the individual 2004 Olympic champion, and DI BUO who is 6 times Olympian. DI BUO is also qualified for the 2008 World Cup Final in September among the four best archers of the season.

Korea opens the match with five 10s and takes a 2-point lead after six arrows (58-56). GALIAZZO and DI BUO both shoot two 10s in this end, but NESPOLI cannot do better than 7 and 9.

In the second end, IM, LEE and PARK do even better with 59 points. Their opponents seem completely helpless... Despite a good end of 55, they already trail by 6 (111-117).

The second half of the match starts in a totally different way. Led by a GALIAZZO at his best, it's Italy's turn to shoot five 10s and a 9. With only one 10s and five 9s, PARK and teammates see their opponents come back to only 2 points (172-170).

The last end is just amazing! While Korea scores starts with three 9s, Italy shoots two 10s and a 9 to tie the score. GALIAZZO and DI BUO finish with 10 and 9 respectively, but a 7 by NESPOLI gives back some margin to the Koreans. This is enough for them, and with 9-10-9, IM, LEE and PARK offer the second gold medal of this Games to their country!

Both teams have exceeded the 224 Olympic record set this morning by Korea earlier today. Italy clinches the silver medal with a 225 total, but the new Olympic record is for Korea with 227.
